COMPETITION RULES

BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATIONS PLEASE READ ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS ​

  1. The competition is held by online video submission eg. Through YouTube upload. Applications from musicians who are under the age of 18 must be filled and submitted by a parent or legal guardian.

  2. By participating in the competition, the applicant grants London Young Musician all rights to use and publish candidate's name, likeness, recordings, and other material in accordance with the Competition needs (promotion, social media, etc.) with no expectation of payment.

  3. Note that once the application fee has been submitted it cannot be refunded.

  4. The decisions of international jury members are final.

  5. For seasonal competitions, candidates can choose to enter into more than one category if they wish. If they do, candidates will need to submit additional application forms. Applicants will need to pay for each category the candidate enters into. 

  6. For seasonal competitions, candidates can only play one musical instrument for each application. An additional musical instrument will need to be submitted as another application.

  7. For seasonal competitions, candidates can apply in the same category with different instruments. They can also apply into different categories with different instruments.

  8. For seasonal competitions, candidates can submit separate videos for different pieces.

  9. For seasonal competitions, jury members who are currently teaching or have taught a candidate in the past two years must refrain from assessing their performance(s).

  10. All candidates of the seasonal competitions will receive an official certificate in digital format, ready for printing.

  11. Only the seasonal Gold, Silver, and Bronze Prize winners are qualified to order the trophy, which is at an additional cost.

  12. Seasonal paper certificates can be ordered for delivery by post, which is at an additional cost.

  13. For seasonal competitions, the competition committee will arrange and send candidates' videos to professional jury members from the jury panel list. This will be done by a preference of relevant instruments or voice. In general, jury members will give marks based on the quality of the candidates' overall performance and musicianship.

  14. The jury panel will give each candidate’s performance a mark out of 100. An average mark of 90 and above will be awarded the Gold Prize; An average mark of 80-89 will be awarded the Silver Prize; An average mark of 70-79 will be awarded Bronze Prize. An average mark of 65-69 will be honorably mentioned. An average mark of under 65 will not be awarded with a prize. There is no limited number for the seasonal prize winners.

  15. For seasonal competitions, Special Prizes are awarded to those candidates who have shown a special and unique side of themselves in their video performance.

  16. Only the seasonal winners who achieve a total of six award credit points or more are qualified to apply for the annual competition – "Musician of the Year". No additional application fee is required for this year-end competition.

  17. The winners of "Musician of the Year" will be offered the opportunity to perform at the gala concert in London. The winners can choose not to attend or perform at the gala concert without affecting their award(s). (Due to Covid-19, 2020-2021 gala concert will be held online.)

  18. Each candidate is responsible for all costs incurred by participating in the competitions and final gala concert. (Due to Covid-19, 2020-2021 gala concert will be held online.)

  19. By submitting the application, the applicant grants the Organisation the right to use and publish candidate's name, likeness, recordings, and other material in accordance with the Competition need (promotion, social media, etc.)

  20. London Young Musician reserves the right to make changes to any information posted on the official competition website, if required.

  21. By submitting the application form, the candidates or their parent or legal guardian understands and accepts these requirements, rules and regulations.
